How to create your own personal development plan

This month, Amy Wilkinson has been sharing her thoughts on creating your own personal development plan to help you to achieve your goals…

We all want to be the best version of ourselves at work and at home, right? But a lot of the time we just hope it’ll happen and then the day to day hamster wheel takes over. You can’t just let your life or career just “happen”, sometimes it’s about grabbing the reins and taking control of your own personal development plan.

Have you ever had those moments when you felt a bit lost or uncertain about where you’re headed? We all have. That’s when it’s time to roll up your sleeves, get a pen and paper out and get to work on your personal growth plan.

Your personal development plan is like your secret weapon for chasing your dreams. First things first, you’ve got to figure out your strengths. What are you good at? What makes you unique? Knowing your strengths is like knowing your superpowers.

Then, take a moment for a personal SWOT analysis. It’s like shining a spotlight on yourself. You’ll find out your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. It’s like looking at the big picture – the good, the not-so-good, and the things you can take advantage of.

Now, here’s the bit everyone cringes about – feedback! Get ready to gather some constructive feedback from your peeps – your friends, mentors, and colleagues. They’ll give you insights that can turbocharge your progress, so let go of the cringe.

And don’t forget your network and mentor map. Life is easier when you’ve got the right people in your corner. So, build a tribe that’s got your back and find mentors who can show you the ropes.

Lastly, let’s talk goals. What are your dreams, and how do you plan to reach them? Set some clear objectives and make a plan to get there.

Taking control of your personal development plan isn’t just about getting organised. It’s about saying, “Hey, I’m taking control!” It’s about taking charge, steering your ship, and it’s a super empowering thing to do.

In a world that’s always changing, personal development is like your trusty compass. It keeps you headed in the right direction, even when the world around you is shifting.

Your personal growth journey isn’t just about being serious and inspirational. It’s about showing up for yourself, working on what matters, and making life a bit more awesome.

So, are you up for it? Ready to get to work on your personal growth plan? Well, I have created a handy guide which you can download here: https://1f97-amy.systeme.io/pdp  to go alongside this Oh for Food’s Sake podcast episode: Self coaching for career success.
